Update on Heidi

Since the last update we sent on Heidi’s health, about two weeks ago, her health has experienced a steady decline. All of the problems she has had in the past have become much worse, she has also become very very weak and is not in a comfortable situation. Nothing is worse than we expected, though it has all happened much quicker than we thought it would. For the past week we have been preparing to lose her in the very near future. Today her doctors informed us she has contracted aspiration pneumonia and her body is too weak to fight it off, even with the assistance of antibiotics and medication. If she follows the normal patterns she will likely depart this world in the next 24 to 72 hours. She remains at peace with the situation and the doctors have ensured she is as comfortable as possible.

Again, we thank you so much for your love, support, prayers and thoughts. We are also grateful to everyone respecting Heidi’s desire to spend as much time with her family as possible and thus giving us space and privacy during this tough time.

Thanks,

Scott & Heidi Wright

Dearest Heidi,

I'm looking over at the Christus statue in our living room and can only think of how His arms are outstretched for you. There are tears of sadness today from coast to coast knowing our association with you must be put on hold for a while. There are also tears of joy knowing you are getting an honorable release from your pain and suffering. I have been reading your blog for months, and your testimony described there has strengthened mine and many, many others.

From Mosiah, "And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that yet may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions. "

To face what you have faced with such testimony--you have certainly been a witness and your strong and beautiful children are such an enduring symbol of the strength of your testimony.

We all do wish the situation were different, but we are proud to have known you and proud to call you family. May our Heavenly Father greet you with the open and outstretched arms reserved for an elect daughter of God.

Dearest Scott,

There is little any of us can say that would make things feel better, but we would sure say it if there was. I've always thought you were one of the most kind and gentle people I've ever known and it breaks my heart thinking of what you're having to go through. Your love for Heidi is so sweet and obvious and tender.

I was talking to my best friend last night and even though she's never met you or Heidi, she was brought to tears thinking of what a sweet young family is having to face. She asked why Heavenly Father allows such things to happen. Why not let a bad person take on cancer instead. This reminded me of something Elder Lund once said. He said that if there were a formula we could follow to ensure certain outcomes, it would take away the need for faith. If we knew that we just had to do X and then Y would happen, like live right and no bad health, then faith would no longer be necessary.

Elder Scott also said something profound at the funeral of a friend. He said how it is ok to refer to the qualities of those who have gone on before us in the present tense. He said these qualities are of eternal nature and do not end at death. He said something like it's ok to refer to the friend as kind, not was kind, because she is still kind. Heidi is, and always will be, a strong, creative, smart, loving, and caring wife and mother.

We pray that in the coming days the prayers of those around you will help lift you and your family.

With love and support,
Jennier and Jerry Price

Scott and Heidi,

I know it's been a very long time since our days in Perrett Apartments - those were some good ones. My dad told me about Heidi's condition a few years ago and my heart just broke for your family. And through it all, every time I come and check in on you guys, You have both been nothing but upbeat and positive. What great examples you two have been to many. I am so sorry for your struggles and life just really isn't fair sometimes. We lost my dad almost 2 years ago and as difficult as it has been, I know he is still with me. The love Heidi has for her family is tremendous and she will always be with you and your babies. They are so lucky to have a mother that ha shown them a lifetime of love. My prayers are with your family and hope that there will be some comfort of sweet blessings in the next few days. Love to you all from Arizona.

xo's,
Tommy and Leigh Stapley

Heidi & Scott,
I am so sorry to read your update from this morning. Heidi, I hope your body stays strong and fights the pneumonia. I was catching up on your blog and admired your beautiful pictures from Disneyland. I am so glad you were able to go and spent that time with your family. I often think about you and the fun times we had making cards together. You have been and will always be an inspiration!
Big hugs and kisses!
