Heidi's Condition, Tuesday April 17th

Over the past two days we have continued to witness a slow decline in Heidi. We have cherished the amount of time she is awake and alert, but have noticed that time continually become less and less, with lower levels of awareness. Given the decline we have experienced today, I do not belive there will be a lot more interaction with her before she passes. We are grateful to the doctors and hospice staff that have made her so comfortable. Though it is sad to see our vivacious Heidi in such a sedated state, we are glad she is not in pain or discomfort.

Dear Heidi,
Nolan & I were talking tonight about some of the happy memories we have of you growing up with our kids in the Livermore 1st Ward. There were 13 great kids your age and we enjoyed the adventures and fun that you all shared. You were a good friend to Blair and an inspiration to Cami who was just 2 years younger and looked up to you. You have continued to inspire us with the fight you have given to be here as long as possible with your husband and children. You are a wonderful example to us all. Love, Mary Beth & Nolan

Scott, I have never met you, but I grew up in Livermore with Heidi. In fact, I used to babysit her and her siblings when they were little. I have read Heidi's blog for over a year now and I can't tell you how much of an example Heidi has been to me! If ever I have had a bad day, she would lift my spirits by her positive attitude. She has gone through so much pain in her life lately, yet she would always look for that one good thing that happened that day! I am really sad that she is leaving you and your sweet family. Yet, I know that Heavenly Father has blessed you with the strength to get through this hard time! She will be missed very much by all of the people that she knew in her lifetime! Love you Heidi!

Heidi,
When we first moved to Livermore, you were one of the bright spots in my life. I loved having you and Amy come over to play with our Amy. I'm sure she loved it too.
What a wonderful family you come from and have. I can tell that you are a great mother and your husband and your children have been blessed because of you. So have your parents. The memory of you will live on in them as you get busy and do new things on the other side. Your grandma and others you love will be there to meet you. Thanks for being such a good example of courage and love to all of us. Don't worry about your parents, siblings, husband and children. Their faith and their fond memories of you will carry them through.
When you get to the other side, I'm sure you'll be smiling and positive and a joy to those who are waiting.
I love you lots. Thanks for your life on earth. I know it will continue.
Love,
Deloris Gehmlich

Heidi, I just did this but am such a computer illiterate--I don't know where it went. Please laugh and forgive me if you get this twice. The Sandholtz Family is having a spring Haiku Slam. It's a simple pattern: 5,7,5. Mine comes to you with love.

To me, spells inspiration.
Thanks for being you!

God be with you 'til we meet again.

My dearest friend
I was just recently in Livermore and though it has changed so much my memories of growing up remain. I couldn't help but think of the two of us at Sunset and Mendenhall. You are such a big part of my adolesence and thinking of us together always makes me smile. One of my fondest memories is of us always trying to plan to get out of our houses as twinsies! It wasn't always easy as we weren't old enough to actually go shopping together to have twinsie outfits. But there was a striped red and tan shirt we both had and tan pants. I think the store we bought it from was Millers?
Do you know I still have at my parents house a box full of notes that we folded into shirts and other weird shapes and passed in class? You can't really read them anymore but for whatever reason they are still there taking up space in my mom's closet and a place in my heart.
You are an amazing woman with an amazing family and husband. All of you are pillars of strength and faith. An example to us all.
Heidi you will always remain in my heart, and my prayers.
May you be filled with love and happiness...
Love Jenny

Scott and Heidi,
I have never met you, but I have followed your news through Kris and the Masters swim team. (I swim at night.) Your heartbreaking story has touched and affected me deeply, as my husband and I have four children the exact same ages as yours. My heart just breaks for you. I want you to know that our family is praying for your family. I know that the Lord can comfort and heal hearts, and that is what we are praying for your family. I know that He will watch over you and send you His loving and comforting spirit at such an incredibly difficult time. May you feel of His love and our love for you.
